Season 1:
Marko and Zdenka are a pair of young lovers in 1941 Zagreb. As they watch their friends, employers, family members become either collaborators or victims of the new Fascist regime, they turn towards Communsim.
The Ustasha begin rounding up Jews, Serbs, and Communists. The most notable ones are imprisoned in the Kerestinec castle. Meanwhile, the communists prepare for war.
As revenge for the deaths of their comrades, the communists begin killing off notable collaborators. In response, the Ustashe start killing the prisoners in Kerestinec. The resistance plots an escape plan which swiftly goes awry.
