Desperate Housewives (2006)
Amas de Casa Desesperadas is an Argentine television series, that debuted on Canal 13 on August 30, 2006. Set in the fictional Manzanares Street, a suburb surrounding Buenos Aires, the series follows the lives of four housewives and the domestic problems and daily mysteries surrounding their husbands, friends and neighbors, which can be more sinister than they appear. The series' tone combines elements of drama, comedy, mystery, farce, soap opera and satire. Based on the American television series, Desperate Housewives, it was developed for Argentina by Buena Vista International and Pol-Ka Producciones. The show’s first season was broadcast by Canal 13 on Argentina, and also by other networks on Uruguay and Paraguay. On October 2006, Canal 13 renewed Amas de Casa Desesperadas for a second season, that will start filming on August 2007.

In a beautiful afternoon in the sunny street of Manzanares, the wife, mother and housewife Alicia Oviedo ended her apparently perfect life. Now, from death, she observes the life and intimate secrets of her four best friends and neighbors: Susana, Lía, Vera and Gabriela. Susana, a single, divorced mother, feels attraction for Miguel Delfino, a newcomer to Manzanares; Lía, who’s been before marrying a successful businesswoman, is stressing beyond words because of her 4 completely out of control sons; Vera, a perfectionist housewife, makes her whole family go crazy; And Gabriela, the runway model who turned into a perfect wife, lives an affair with her 17-year-old gardener. Together, this four Friends, want to solve the mystery that took Alicia to commit suicide.
Susana finally gets a date with Miguel, but soon she finds competition from Carla, the man-whore of Manzanares. Carlos, Gabriela’s husband, is starting to suspect that his wife is having an affair. Despite a visit to couple’s therapy, Ricardo decides that he can no longer live with Vera and leaves her. One night, René, Alicia’s son, sees his father unburying a mysterious trunk underneath their pool.
Susana convinces the other three to move on with the arrangements for the big dinner party that Alicia was planning to carry on before her suicide. Vera, the hostess per excellence, accepts to host the event at her home. Later, when Susana’s ex-husband comes by to visit, things end with a discussion and with Susana naked on her front garden. At the same time, Gabriela is being extorted by the least expected blackmailer.
Mrs. Hidalgo, a nosy neighbor, decides that Susana was the cause of Carla being abruptly without a house and starts to blackmailer her. Completely overthrown by her sons, Lía resorts to pills, even though she is against them. Gabriela’s struggles to hide her affair bring unexpected consequences for her jealous husband.
To Gabriela’s horror, Carlos’ mother comes to Manzanares to spend time with them, and that complicates her intentions to reunite with Juan. After a thief enters the house where Susana is taking care of a cat, she is invited to a date by one of the policemen assigned to the case. Lia tries to make her sons to be accepted into a new exclusive private school. Vera, visiting the Oviedo’s household, establish a quick, but special bond with René.
Susana finds out that René is in a psychiatric hospital and makes her daughter Julieta sneak into the hospital to speak with him. Gabriela’s attempt to blackmail her mother in law have unexpected results. Lía has friction with Ángeles del Campo, a mother of the rival Barklif College. During a session of couple’s therapy, Ricardo confess to Vera that he is not happy with their sex life: she decides to surprise him in a hotel.
Susana and Carla make team to spy on the new sexy houseguest of Miguel, the beautiful Aldana. Lía takes things to a desperate extreme to plan and carry out successfully a fancy dinner. Mother Solís declares war on Gabriela. Vera is opposed to his husband plan to buy Martín’s affection with a brand-new car.
The identity of the mysterious blackmailer is finally revealed. Carlos gives a news that surprises everyone, especially Gabriela. Lía searches for help on his friends when she’s feeling desperate. At the same time, Susana makes a discovery that makes her doubt of her relationship with Miguel.
To escape from her boredom, Gabriela organizes a runway show and invites other women of the neighborhood to act as models. Susana and Gabriela fight for her affair with Juan. Lía desperately looks for a competent nanny through all the neighborhood. At the same time, Julieta is keeping a dangerous secret from her mother and the Police are requested at Gabriela’s house… but, which of her men are taking away?
Lía feels displaced by the new and ultra-competent nanny of her children. Mrs. Del Campo’s double-secret life threatens to destroy Vera’s marriage. Carla realizes that her friend, Mrs. Hidalgo has disappeared and calls the police. Susana surprises an intruder in her house and Gabriela starts to suspect that her husband is involved in illegal activities.
The financially struggling Gabriela is forced to start modeling again to pay her debts. Still mad at Ricardo for his affair, Vera searches for revenge inviting Jorge, the head of a local pharmacy, to a date. Felisa, Marta Hidalgo’s sister moves into Manzanares to search for her missing sister. Everything goes out of control when Lía sees Tomás flirting with the nanny. Susana confronts her ex-husband Estaban about his past affairs.
Carlos, under house arrest, speaks again of the possibility of having a baby. Carla finds out the truth about the destruction of her house. Miguel’s mission on Manzanares becomes clearer. Lía recurs to extreme measures to put Jeremías into a day-care center and Mrs. Hidalgo “hurts” Susana. Jorge loses all hope, and more, with Vera.
Father Tomás arrives and is discovered by Lía with a woman that is not his wife. At the same time, Susana surprises Julieta and René kissing, so she prohibits Julieta to continue their relationship. René finds the whereabouts of the mysterious Andy. Juan’s mother asks Gabriela to speak with him about his future. She agrees, but, when she goes to his apartment, he has a surprise reserved for her.
Miguel confesses that he still wishes to have kids someday, something that worries Susana since she doesn’t want any more kids. Ricardo confesses to Vera that he likes to be dominated and that he thinks it would be good for their relationship to do the things he used to do with Ángeles. Much to her disappointment, Lía finds out that her kids had been stealing their neighbors’ stuff. Miguel’s investigation threatens his relationship with Susana, and a disconcerting event makes thing even worse.
Juan’s roommate makes Gabriela an offer she can’t deny. Susana discovers a secret about Miguel Delfino’s past and the present of another of her neighbors. Lía makes something about her concerns that Tomas’s rise in his job would make him be apart from his family.
Vera is the victim of gossip, after a series of events that makes everyone find out about Ricardo’s affairs. Lía’s sons turn into social outcasts when they are blamed for a lice epidemic in their private college. Susana and Carla make a team to investigate the mysterious Pablo Oviedo. Gabriela fights for hiding her economic problems from her neighbors.
Mother Solís’ ghost comes back to haunt Gabriela. Lía declares war to the insensible husband of a deaf acquaintance of her. Vera and Ricardo are forced to take drastic measures when Martín, completely stoned, hurts a school’s security guard. Susana tries to forget Miguel accepting a date with Carla’s contractor, just to incite her anger.
When Sofía, Susana’s frivolous mother threatens to move to her house, Susana becomes cupid for her and her boyfriend Tito, who has been away. Vera and Lía have a serious disagreement when Vera punish Lía’s son. Carlos tries to force Gabriela to sign a post-nuptial agreement. Pablo and René Oviedo are questioned by the police about the toy box, and that turns into a father-and-son argument.
A good action makes Lía establish a friendship with her archenemy, Mrs. Reinoso. When Gabriela refuses to have sex with Carlos, he fights back with something more important to her: money. Miguel’s fight for resolving his mystery stops when he runs into a corrupt policeman.
Lía discovers that Tomás has been keeping from her a secret. Gabriela is furious when she finds out that Carlos also keeps a secret: he has been sabotaging her birth control pills. Susana tries to protect Julieta from René, who is turning more and more obsessive. Vera tries to convince Ricardo that his friendship with Jorge is strictly platonic, but would she be able to convince Jorge himself?
Gabriela is forced to choose between Carlos and Juan once and for all. Felisa and Pablo fight in a decisive battle. Susana searches for advice from an old acquaintance to find out more about the mysterious Miguel Delfino. And Lía, worried about her sex life with Tomás is fading away, takes drastic measures, obtaining unexpected results.
Carla, in a jealousy attack, tries to sabotage Susana’s love life, one that finally has arrived at a happy ending. Lía’s plan to protect her marriage brings complications. Carlos, with his pride hurt, tries to revenge his honor. Jorge makes a desperate attempt to steal Vera from Ricardo. Felisa prepares a little bit of tea for Miguel and a shocking proposal. A new neighbor moves into Manzanares…
Finally, Alicia’s motivation to commit suicide is revealed. We find out the truth about René, Andy, and Sonia. Vera, completely repented, tries to reconcile with Ricardo. Tomás’ and Vera’s relationship takes a very dramatic turn. Carlos finds out about Gabriela’s affair. Miguel and Pablo fight for the last time. A surprise waits for Susana when she arrives at her house.
