After 19 years on Death Row for the rape and murder of his teenage girlfriend, Daniel Holden is going home. His conviction has been vacated due to new DNA evidence. Now he has to return to a world he no longer knows and his reentry into the outside world may be as unforgiving as prison. Daniel is haunted by the past, dogged by the present, and uncertain of the future. Back in Paulie, the Holden/Talbot family adjusts to daily life without Daniel's influence and Janet frets over Daniel's life away from home.
Daniel continues to adjust to group living which is further complicated by his new roommate. Meanwhile, Amantha continues to reexamine her past by reconnecting with a former high school classmate.
Daniel gets temporary respite from the grind of the halfway house when he and Chloe set out on an adventure. Meanwhile, Amantha is intrigued by an invitation from Billy while Tawney invests a little too personally in one of her patients.
Daniel has a confrontation in group therapy that makes him question the possibility of adjusting to normal life.
Ted Sr. seeks his own bliss. Janet and Daniel attempt to be honest with one another about what's between them.
Daniel worries that his life has gotten a little too real. Janet is loosening her grip on the past while Teddy opens up to Ted, Sr. about his future.
Daniel begins to appreciate his progress as he realizes what his new life may look like, while the old life is quickly disappearing for Teddy. Jon debriefs Janet and Amantha on what he has learned about Daniel's case.
