No spoiler review: A bit of a let down, but only because the concept showed a lot of promise in the first quarter of the film. Personally, while I disagree with the central conclusions the film draws on its subject matter, I do applaud the effort to explore the subject thoughtfully. I don't think they were quite able to pull it off satisfyingly, however. A decent movie overall, but I hope the director/writer keeps going, there's clearly talent there.
Here's another one I really didn't intend to watch. Surprisingly though, it wasn't all bad! The first 75 minutes works well enough but the finale kinda goes off the rails. Grimcutty (2022) reminds me of The Babadook (2014) in that is has a social message attached to it. If I'm not mistaken, this one is about helicopter parents, unreasonable expectations, and not taking the time to understand that you and your kid aren't joined at the hip. I could be wrong though! "I AM YOUR MOTHER!" was my favorite line from The Babadook (2014) and "COME GET SOME!" is my favorite line from Grimcutty (2022). SPOILERS AHEAD! My other favorite line is "[...] when I asked you about the cuts, you could have just said that Grimcutty is this real life huge fucking creature, and it's gonna cut you." We were all thinking it, Cassidy!
