I don't think that this meant to be a comedy, but John Carradine has his tongue so firmly planted in his cheek in this tale of nautical nonsense that it is hard to conclude otherwise. Gale Sondergaard looks stunning as the owner of a seedy South sea island joint who teams up with some salvage hunters on the trail of millions of dollars worth of gold. We've got intrigues a-plenty and the never-to-be-forgotten sight of Sidney "Charlie Chan" Toler in a wet beach wrap. The effects are basic, particularly towards the end - but I'd still give it a go; particularly if it's late at night and you've had a beer, or two...
