Season 1:
In a seaside town, a man catches fire in a blaze that starts without cause or contact and kills him in under a minute. The police try to keep the case under wraps until they can understand what’s going on. Louise, an intern from the local newspaper, has everything to prove and nothing to lose. She throws herself into investigating the mysterious combustion, without much regard for ethics.
Another victim spontaneously combusts: a mother who burns to death in front of her own child. Louise attempts to get closer to Gabriel in order to get information out of him. Despite their mutual distrust, they agree to help each other investigate the mysterious deaths. But Louise starts to have doubts about Gabriel when she finds out that his son died in an arson fire.
The deaths are now signed by graffiti scrawled on the scene: MOLOCH – an ancient god of sacrifice. The victims also seem to have been deliberately targeted. Gabriel witnesses a fiery killing, while Louise reconnects with people from her past – a network of punks and anarchists. She ends up at a violent rave party and quickly feels overwhelmed by her decision.
As Louise and Gabriel struggle to recover from the dangerous situations they’ve put themselves in, the city is in crisis. The three housing project deaths have triggered riots, and the threat of violence seems inevitable. As Louise is about to give up on her investigation, Tom pressures her to resume her investigation on behalf of the police and to focus on their only suspect: Gabriel. However, Louise has attracted the attention of Moloch himself, who summons her for a meeting.
While chaos reigns in the city, Louise reveals details about her meeting with Moloch to the newspaper. He claims he is determined to make the world a better place by punishing the wicked. Despite misgivings, the newspaper can’t resist publishing Louise’s scoop, which she uses as leverage to get hired as a reporter. But her deal with the devil catches up with her when Moloch informs her of his next murder. And Gabriel confronts his own memories, leading to a shocking revelation.
Patrolled by military units, the city is in the grip of terror. Louise is on the run from Moloch who, considering himself betrayed, seeks to kill her. To protect her, Gabriel shelters Louise in a motel on the outskirts of town. At this very motel everything will come to a head in a single night, sealing the fate of Moloch, his followers, and his prey.
