Ray visits the Vanoise National park in the high Alps France. His journey takes him foraging in alpine meadows, goat herding, tracking ibex, spotting playful marmots before trekking to the top of a mountain to find one of the rarest birds in Europe the bearded vulture.
Ray Mears explores the limestone cliffs, caves and gorges of the Ardeche. He starts his journey abseiling into a hidden cave before canoeing down the river, discovering frogs, snakes and plants before setting up camp to look for beavers.
Ray Mears travels to the Camargue to meet the local cowboys living with the Camargue horse and bulls. He visits the salt pans and discovers how the salt influences the landscape before heading off to meet one the region's most famous residents, flamingos.
Ray Mears travels to the Cevennes to discover the secrets of this mysterious landscape. He discovers a hidden world of bees, meets a local chestnut farmer, visits some wolves and gets up close to vultures.
Ray Mears travels to Provence to explore the landscape, descending into the ochre canyons, the perfumed lavender fields, and the wonderful wildlife it holds from Bonelli eagles to wild boar.
Ray Mears travels to the west coast of Brittany to explore the rugged coastline and its islands. He heads out to sea where he gets up close to dolphins and seals and witnesses the fastest bird in the sky.
