After skipping town a decade ago, transgender activist Caz Davis returns to the remote, politically divided dairy community of Rurangi, hoping to reconnect with his estranged father, who hasn't heard from him since before Caz transitioned.

Tensions between Rurangi's farming and Maori communities culminate in a strange phenomenon that awakens the past.
Anahera stands up to Aunty Beth on the marae, Caz returns to Auckland to seek out Ellie, and Jem experiences his first queer nightclub.
Jem is crushed to realise the town is gossiping about his sexuality. Caz tries to convince Anahera to let local queer kids host a Rainbow Youth Group in her op shop.
Caz is forced to watch the documentary about his dead lover, Anahera and Ellie have a karaoke duel, and Jem wants to go back in the closet.
Tensions in Rurangi grow. Anahera confesses her true feelings, Jem makes a painful decision, and Caz's pursuit of Andy's ghost takes him to a dangerous new low.
