Season 1:
In the premiere episode, a man is lost over the channel in a runaway hot air balloon, two skindivers are trapped in an underwater cave, and a buffalo prefers the Lighthouse Bar in town to his Home on the range indicating it is rescue time again for the members of the Island Rescue Forces.
A drunk off-duty cop starts a brawl when island's emergency chiefs are preparing for the annual summer boat race! They also must tend a young boy in a diabetic coma. Just as the race gets underway, a “mayday” signal is received from a honeymoon couple headed for Hong Kong on a leaking boat.
Chief Lifeguard George Baker goes to rescue two boys who are floating out to sea on a makeshift raft, while Police Chief Walt Robinson sets a trap for a bootlegger, Wilson wonders how his volunteer fire fighters will respond if and when an emergency situation occurs. The volunteer fire fighters have walked off the job
Island police chief Robinson is informed by federal agents that weapon trafficking is occurring in his jurisdiction. Before he can take action, the government men are taken hostage by the gun smuggling gang.
Mr. Porter is the leader of a band of locals who greet a visiting bunch of scruff-looking motorcyclists with open hostility and demand that police chief Walt Robinson order them off the island. The Code R team must rescue an elderly victim from a fire
George's ex-girlfriend stops by for a visit. Meanwhile, an arsonist is setting fires all over the island. The island residents react fearfully when the arsonist continues to set random fires, and Rick and a young teen-age couple barely miss becoming casualties.
Suzy is excited at the prospect of her first day off in six months but doesn’t get much time to relax as she first must help a man trapped in the water in his dune buggy, rescue a runaway horse and use her expertise in guiding the Coast Guard and Lifeguard to the site of two unconscious boaters.
It's the 4th of July weekend and the Island's population is increased by a seemingly abandoned baby who has fallen into a well and Ron Garrison, a visiting yacht owner whose disregard for the local laws has caused a dangerous fire.
Walt happily awaits the arrival of his brother Mitch, his nephew Greggie, and Mitch's new bride Karen, only to have his joy turn to anxiety when Mitch's private plane is overdue and is spotted crashed on an isolated part of the island.
The first annual beauty contest on the island has the full attention of Rick and George two of its judges, but their concentration is diverted by, among other things, a sailboat accident, an auto accident, and a mine shaft cave-in.
The Island Rescue Forces discover they have a job bigger than they can handle and have to call on the aid of their neighbors when all electrical power for the island is lost and danger to life and property is imminent. A couple is trapped in an elevator, a farmer risks losing his entire crop, several people need emergency medical attention, and a pair of thieves try to take advantage of the useless burglar alarms during the blackout.
A rescue team must get a boy out who is trapped in a freezer. After 3 people wash ashore unconscious the crew must do a detective work to determine what happened. Three foreigners, who have been adrift for weeks in a small boat, are unconscious when they wash ashore on the island; George has the unhappy task of tying up a dangerous World War II mine; and Rick finds himself in the midst of a blooming romance.
Decisions seem to be the order of the day when Rick is offered a job on the mainland, fixit-man Alvin Purdy considers retiring and leaving the island, and George is perplexed as to how to deal with his latest romantic encounter.
