After an explosive encounter with a powerful magic user, Megumin informs her parents that she wants to study explosion magic at the Crimson Demon magic academy called the Red Prison.
Komekko discovers a furry four-legged dinner that Megumin ends up adopting, before the Red Prison conducts a questionable educational exercise.
An unproductive study session results in Megumin and Yunyun having nothing better to do than try and improve Bukkorori's love life.
As the day of both their graduation and the awakening of the Dark God seem to draw ever closer, Megumin gets the feeling Yunyun is keeping secrets from her.
With Komekko missing and monsters running amuck, everything Megumin and Yunyun have learned is put to the test.

Megumin reaches Axel to begin her career as an adventurer, but is finding that her explosion magic doesn't make her a good fit for most parties.
A high-ranked demon has begun lurking the woods near Axel, and the local adventurers--including Megumin and Yunyun--are trying to do something about it.
The demonic Host continues the search for his master, and Megumin may be the only one who can keep him from destroying Axel in the process.
