Season 1:
At a hot new cake shop that’s like walking into a fairy tale, business is booming. For entrepreneurs Gareth and Ryan, life couldn’t be sweeter as customers flock to their Cardiff bakery for show-stopping cakes for special occasions. And with their top team of cake queens, they are up to any challenge. Ryan is at the counter to meet professional golfer Hannah, who wants a cake to celebrate a special 25th birthday. She is determined to make the most of every day after a life-changing health scare. When it comes to cakes, not many requests surprise Gareth, but newly engaged couple Jamie are Sophie have an order that’s a first. They want an engagement cake with a twist - it will also reveal their baby’s gender! Ryan is rubbish at keeping secrets - can he avoid letting the cat out of the bag? With orders flying in, the cake queens are up against it with their small kitchen bursting at the seams, so Gareth has to come up with a plan.
It’s Pride week in Cardiff, and the shop goes all out with a very colourful celebration. Ryan is in the dog house when he agrees to a last-minute order that causes chaos in the kitchen for cake queen Emily. She and Gareth work to the wire to deliver the crucial showstopper for an event in the city. Super-talented cake decorator Maria is asked to enter a prestigious cake competition but has a crisis of confidence and worries she may not be good enough to compete. Meanwhile, customer and tattoo artist Amelia gets a wow reaction from Gareth when she orders a cake to celebrate a particular part of her body.
With a cake shop that definitely delivers the wow factor Gareth always wanted, he and the team are all over the world of Instagram. But social media queen Akhi’s next mission is all about getting them on TikTok to get word out about their beautiful bakes. Gareth and Ryan are shocked to discover someone has been vandalising shops on their street in Cardiff, including covering theirs with graffiti. Gareth doesn’t prove a natural member of the clean-up squad. Heavy metal fan Josh comes to the shop for a cake for his dad to celebrate their special relationship. And cake queen Mared is happy to help Abbey with a special order to thank the NHS staff who saved not only her life but also her two-year-old daughter’s.
The shop is visited by (almost) royalty as the current Miss Wales comes in for a cake to present to the winner of this year’s event. It’s a blast from the past for Gareth as he and Miss Wales were both professional models at the same agency. The team are losing money not serving hot drinks that customers keep asking for. Despite being more of a squash man himself, Gareth agrees to put teas on the menu, and the team head out for a tea-tasting session. As Gareth and Ryan approach their five-year anniversary, Ryan’s brave enough to arrange a secret surprise for Gareth on a staff night out. Meanwhile, Emily works her decorating magic on a cake for shop superfan customer Aarifa, who needs a showstopper for her sister’s birthday.
The shop is approaching its one-year anniversary, and Gareth and Ryan throw a party for the cake queens. The girls come up with a show-stopping creation to mark the occasion, but a slip almost ruins everything. Superfan of the shop, Hilary, makes an 80-mile round trip from Bristol to order the perfect cake for her dream 21st. A design student, she arrives - much to Gareth’s delight - equipped with mood board and colour palette for her big day. Like Hilary, the people of Cardiff can’t get enough macarons, cupcakes and treats, but the team are struggling to keep up with demand with so little space. The boys think they’ve found the ideal new base to expand, but it’s a big business decision to take. Meanwhile, Joe arrives at the shop looking for a cake for his mum, who Gareth and Ryan quickly agree deserves a very special thank you.
