Detective Muneta Koichiro (Sato Koichi) has his wife and child murdered by someone at their home. As they are family members, he cannot join the investigation, and his senior, Detective Inspector Yokowatari Takeshi (Chii Takeo), is put in charge of the case. On the same night, a loan shark murder occurs. A man believed to be the culprit is found dead in a hit-and-run, but the stolen 300 million yen has vanished... Three years later, it is discovered that the owner of the hit-and-run car was a ceramic artist, Motomiya Kiriko (Mizuno Maki).
Senior police inspector Takeshi Yokowatari (Takeo Chii) is stabbed by someone. This leads detective Koichiro Muneta (Koichi Sato) to learn that Yokowatari was pursuing the man who hit and ran his daughter, Masahiro Oe (Hirohide Yakumaru), 28 years ago, and the case of an abandoned child 28 years ago.
Tomohiko Mizuhara (Shinobu Sakagami), who works at a university, is engaged to Mami, the granddaughter of businessman Shoichiro Aikawa, but is living with hostess Yoshie Kaizuka (Aya Sugimoto) under the guise of marriage, and is steadily climbing the ladder to success by using her body. Around that time, Tsuneo Motomiya (Ryu Raita), who was carrying illegal donations to a former minister, is murdered in the Tanzawa Mountains. Motomiya is the father of Kiriko (Maki Mizuno), the girlfriend of detective Koichiro Muneta (Koichi Sato).
Detective Inspector Koichi Muneta (Koichi Sato) had a lover, Kiriko (Maki Mizuno), who looked just like his wife, who was killed by a robber several years ago. One day, company employee Junichi Furuta (Yutaka Abe) was murdered. Muneta visits Furuta's ex-wife to find out the details, and is shown a book of poems given to Furuta by his first love.
