The Comeback Clan (2010)

Episode 1
Episode 1: Episode 1 (Sep 20, 2010)
TAI KOO-TUNG, who runs the Tasty Food Cafe, is a miser. His daughter TAI YING-LEI is taken to the hospital for stomach cramps. He is very worried. LEI’s mother passed away when she was very young. TUNG has been taking care of her since and so LEI is very grateful to him. LEI’s boyfriend YIP TSIK-LEUNG is a cello teacher. He always dreams that he could study music in Vienna one day. TUNG does not like LEUNG. He dresses up as a homosexual to check out what kind of person LEUNG but he ends up having an attack of diarrhea. LEI YUNG-CHI is an assistant manager at the Investment Department of the Ching Kong Bank. TUNG is not happy that he is requested to pay a service charge for insufficient amount of bank savings. He argues with CHI at the bank and both make a laughing stock of themselves. TUNG runs into YIP MO-SING. He mistakenly thinks that SING is an invisible rich man……
Episode 2
Episode 2: Episode 2 (Sep 21, 2010)
Some creditors appear at the Cafe. SING wants to withdraw now that he knows that the cafe is running short of capital. Rainfield Bonds close down. SING and other investors go to Ching Kong Bank for compensation. CHI is angry to see her younger sister, LEI YUNG-SHAN, supporting the investors. CHI and SHAN do not get along well, as SHAN is mad about her sister for not letting her see their father before he died. SING volunteers to be the chairman of the Victims’ Alliance. The Alliance has a meeting with Ching Long Bank, during which TUNG steals the limelight. TUNG runs into TSUI HEI-HEI, who sells scraps for living. HEI is also a victim of Rainfield Bonds. She asks TUNG to help her get her compensation. CHI meets with SING. She asks him to persuade other victims to accept 50% of compensation. If he manages to do so, she will pay him 100%. Before he starts his persuasion, he uses a trick to ruin SING’s image……
Episode 3
Episode 3: Episode 3 (Sep 22, 2010)
LEUNG is very disappointed that SING should betray other victims. But he forgives his father when he sees his bank statements. SING goes to NGAI CHUN-CHONG, a rich businessman in town, to see whether they can open Hong Kong-styled restaurants in Mainland China together. The latter is not interested nevertheless. LEUNG sells his cello in order to help SING out. SING pawns some valuable items to buy it back. CHI is still very upset about PAUL. She goes to a bar to drink her unhappiness away. SHAN shows up and draws away the man who is trying to take advantage of CHI. She then gives CHI some words of consolation. The sisters are reconciled with each other. SING tricks LEI into leasing her flat to him. Furious, TUNG makes SING and LEUNG abide by the strict regulations he sets. SING runs into HEI on the street. They end up at a police station because of some minor misunderstanding……

Episode 4: Episode 4 (Sep 23, 2010)
CHI claims she can triple the Cafe’s profit in three months. If she succeeds, TUNG should give her 20% more shares; but if she fails, she should give up hers. TUNG agrees to her proposal. CHI suggests launching canned Hong Kong-styled milk tea. TUNG supports her idea on one hand, but refuses to tell her the secret of making a good cup of mike tea on the other. Inspired by TUNG, LEI comes up with the idea of organizing a retro food festival. She loses her proposal on her way to the cafe. CHUNG’s son, NGAI CHI-ON, finds it. He also finds her idea very good. Some fierce dogs surround LEI when she is looking for traditional restaurants. SHAN comes to her rescue. They become good friends because of this. HEI wants to hide away from CHONG. She pleads TUNG to take her in and give her a job. TUNG agrees with the sole purpose of using her to defeat CHI. CHI finds TUNG’s secret tea bag by accident. HEI takes it by force……
Episode 5
Episode 5: Episode 5 (Sep 24, 2010)
HEI has gone into a coma and might even enter a vegetative state. TUNG worries about her medical fees. EVA, LEI’s boss, shows up at the cafe. CHI suspects she has taken the bride of Heung Moon Yuen’s owner. LEI finds it suspicious that Heung Mong Yuen is qualified to take part in the Retro Food Festival. She is even more so when she sees a pile of banknotes in EVA’s handbag. Not soon afterwards, EVA fires LEI for losing a contract. Following CHI’s advice, LEI makes EVA hire her again and the Tasty Food Cafe enter the Retro Food Festival. HEI has come round but she has lost her memory. TUNG tells her SING is her husband then takes her home. SING has lost some money on horse racing. He vents his anger on HEI; she runs away in anger. HEI has fallen into the sea. TUNG jumps into the sea to save her. SING uses mouth-to-mouth ventilation on her. HEI has a special feeling for SING after she has come round. The Retro Food Festival has ended……
Episode 6
Episode 6: Episode 6 (Sep 27, 2010)
CHI manages to bring SHAN round to working at the Cafe. The staff have some misgiving about SHAN at first, but they change their view after she has covered up their slacking. CHI wants to set a wedge between TUNG and his staff. She demands him to lay off some of them with the reason of financial difficulty. TUNG counter suggests carrying out a voluntary pay-cut scheme. Whoever offers the least pay-cut will be sacked. Feeling that she was not kind enough to LEUNG in the past, HEI takes some biscuits to the piano store. LEUNG’s student, RICKY, teases at LEUNG. HEI pretends to hit RICKY. RICKY complains to his mother as soon as she arrives that HEI has hit him. LEUNG loses his job as a result. LEI makes RICKY apologize right in front of LEUNG and his mother. LEUNG resumes his job. LAM KIU, one of TUNG’s staff, has come up with a way to ease the Cafe’s financial difficulty. Later, SING fires her with no apparent reason……

TUNG, SING, YUNG and ON discuss about their co-operation plan. TUNG feels sick after eating the cinnamon stick that is used to stir coffee. LEI suggests putting on a sponsored concert to promote Tasty Food Cafe. She also thinks this would be a good opportunity for LEUNG to perform publicly. CHI, however, turns her down with the reason that LEUNG has no commercial value. ON has bought a new boat. He invites LEI to his boat party. At the party, LEI suggests inviting the well-known cellist YOYO LI to the concert. She also recommends LEUNG. ON supports her ideas. ON learns by chance that CHONG has bowel cancer. He is not unhappy he knew about the news so late. CHI takes HEI to her old flat in the hope that she will then remember where she has put her tea bag. Her effort proves futile. CHI has created a new image for HEI. She invites SING and HEI to a French restaurant. ON fancies LEI……

Episode 9
Episode 9: Episode 9 (Sep 30, 2010)
LEI saves LEUNG in the nick of time. She also gives him some words of consolation. When CHI learns that ON has postponed his meeting because of LEI, she tells LEI ON has a crush on her. LEUNG feels that he is a burden of LEI and so proposes to break up. LEI refuses though. CHONG challenges ON’s decision of postponing the meeting. He also asks ON whether he is in love with LEI. ON denies again. LEI happens to hear this. LEI blames ON for LEUNG’s poor performance then quits. TUNG is furious. He takes it out on SING. LEI suggests getting married. LEUNG is determined to pull himself together. TUNG knows very well that LEI will not drop her idea of marrying LEUNG, and so asks LEUNG to work at his cafe. To his surprise, SING does not support the idea. Memories of the past keep coming up. HEI returns to her old flat to look for the necklace that appeared in her memories but she finds the secret teabag instead. She informs CHI immediately.

Episode 10: Episode 10 (Oct 01, 2010)
CHI lies to TUNG and SING that the Ngai’s Group has changed the terms of their contract. She suggests launching canned milk tea on their own. Later, she tells HEI how TUNG has gobbled up her father’s shares of the cafe. TUNG is glad to see LEUNG doing better now at the cafe. TUNG is not pleased that LEI has to pay for her wedding. He has an argument with SING over this. SHAN tells TUNG CHI has bought the shares of Dinosaur Scientific Technology so that she can invest in his cafe. TUNG wants to follow suit. SING is interested in the canned milk tea projects. He tries to borrow money for it but fails. HEI wants to see CHONG but his staff stops her. Meanwhile, CHONG appears. He tells his staff HEI is not only his relative but also a newcomer. HEI tells him about the unreasonable terms. CHONG can see that CHI wants to make a profit by selling canned milk tea, because she wants to buy TUNG’s shares. CHONG offers to lend her money……

Episode 11: Episode 11 (Oct 04, 2010)
ON is unhappy to discover that CHONG is buying off Tasty Food Cafe in secret. The share price of Dinosaur Scientific Technology has dropped considerably. SHAN questions why CHI had to invest in it, CHI confesses she has not. TUNG has mortgaged his shares of Tasty Food Cafe and used the money to invest in Dinosaur Scientific Technology. He turns to CHI for help, who admits frankly that she has been using SHAN to revenge for their late father. He tells her he is not her father’s enemy but benefactor but she does not believe his words. People of the Chun Chi Group come to collect TUNG’s shares. TUNG flies into a fit of rage and falls out with SHAN. SHAN gives CHI a good scolding for being the mastermind behind this then stomps off the house. CHI is appointed Managing Director of the Investment Department of the Ngai’s Group. LEI despises her for her evil deeds. CHONG gives the operation right to SING……
Episode 12
Episode 12: Episode 12 (Oct 05, 2010)
LEUNG bumps into SHAN and puts her up in her place. TUNG meets his old staff to see if they want to open a restaurant with him. His suggestion meets with SING’s sarcastic remarks. LEI and SHAN have an argument because of TUNG. Thanks to LEUNG’s mediation they patch up with each other. The second wife of CHI’s father visits CHI. She tells CHI TUNG was her father’s benefactor. CHI still does not believe it. CHI remembers a man nicknamed GAMBLER SHING has once accused TUNG of swallowing up the cafe. So she checks out with him about the real story. To her surprise, GAMBLER SHING tells her TUNG really was her father’s benefactor. On the day of the re-opening of Tasty Food Cafe, TUNG wants to jump down from the roof. CHI, LEI and LEUNG stop him. CHI falls down with TUNG in the midst of the chaos. LEUNG has been paying no attention to SING recently. SING explains that he is only trying to help him become a performer……
Episode 13
Episode 13: Episode 13 (Oct 06, 2010)
SING denies when HEI asks if he has been cheating her. HEI returns to her old flat. All her old memories come back to her as she looks at the things in the flat. HEI asks CHONG why he had to swallow up the Tasty Food Cafe. He says he is merely trying to compensate her. Unhappy that SING has been lying to her, HEI runs away from home. LEI has always thought that CHI makes things difficult for her to revenge for her. Now that she realizes she has been wrong, she wants to be friends with CHI again. LEI has a fever. TUNG hurries her to the hospital. When he learns that it is only pretence and learns about why she has to do so, he is determined to pull himself together. SHAN and LEUNG have been very close recently. LEI worries that SHAN will take her boyfriend away. SHAN assures her this will never happen. CHONG has a heart attack. In the hospital, he tells ON how he likes to do about his property and money after he dies……
Episode 14
Episode 14: Episode 14 (Oct 07, 2010)
The Fire Burning Fired Rice is very popular. TUNG learns from LEI and ON’s conversation that CHI is backing them up financially. He thanks CHI for her help. Unexpectedly, she apologizes to him for returning his kindness with hatred. She also says that she would like to invest in his cafe. LEUNG and SHAN play music in front of the cafe so as to attract customers. They are distributing fliers for the cafe when they see SING. SING sneers at SHAN. ON is unhappy that his staff gossip about his relationship with CHONG. LEI cheers him up. While she is away to the washroom, LEUNG sends her a text message to invite her to Stanley. ON deletes the message. Later, he takes LEI to Stanley, where they see LEUNG having a good time with SHAN. SING takes his staff to Tasty Kitchen. Everybody finds its food delicious except SING. CHONG’s health is getting worse. ON makes CHOW NIN make a fake wil……
Episode 15
Episode 15: Episode 15 (Oct 08, 2010)
LEI is heartbroken to see SHAN kissing LEUNG. HEI blames SING for not caring about their son. He retorts by asking whether she is going out with TUNG. The two end up in discord. TUNG is charged of running karaoke service without a license. CHI helps TUNG out with her knowledge of law. It turns out that it is SING who reports TUNG. TUNG proposes distributing free meals to street sleepers as a marketing initiative. The smell of stinky tofu makes CHI faint. TUNG is so startled that he does not know what to do. TUNG visits CHI. He tries so hard to please her, but she finds it too much. TUNG invites CHI to an expensive restaurant. With a view to drawing him away, CHI makes herself look as ugly as possible. TUNG understands her intention as soon as he sees her “farting bag”. LEUNG still has not made it clear to SHAN that he does not like her. LEI is so angry that she decides to go on a business trip to Shanghai……
Episode 16
Episode 16: Episode 16 (Oct 11, 2010)
SHAN blames herself for causing LEUNG and LEI’s breakup. LEI decides that SHAN is not her friend anymore. TUNG does not like ON. He hopes that LEI can go back to LEUNG. ON and Lei have lunch together and he expresses his love for her. LEI turns him down. CHONG wants to go home. ON and NIN worry that he will find out about their scam. LEUNG is running an environment-friendly percussion course at a community centre. Seeing the poor recruitment of the course, SHAN mobilizes the support of her fellow colleagues. CHONG wants to invest in the Tasty Kitchen but TUNG rejects him instantly. ON sends NIN to take back the Tasty Food Cafe and to acquire SING’s shares. On one hand, ON does so to revenge on TUNG. On the other, he wants to please LEI. Believing that he has lost the Tasty Food Cafe because of LEI and TUNG, SING does everything he could to make it up for his loss. Firstly, he pours red paint on the Tasty Kitchen……
Episode 17
Episode 17: Episode 17 (Oct 12, 2010)
The police charge TUNG with serious assault. His lawyer says the evidence is unfavorable to him. But if they can find the driver of the taxi TUNG took the other day, they will have a chance to turn the table. ON complains to CHONG, who is in a coma, of how little he values him. There is something LEI finds suspicious about the case. ON is startled. TUNG’s lawyer informs him that he has found the taxi driver. ON suggests going privatization. CHI has reservation about this. SING is drowning when HEI finds him. She jumps into the water to his rescue immediately. SING is very upset and keeps on blaming himself for what he has done to TUNG. To cheer him up, LEUNG suggests organizing an environment-friendly percussion concert at the community open day. TUNG’s lawyer tells CHI that the taxi driver has a criminal record and a record of giving a false statement. Although ON has an alibi, LEI still suspects he is the culprit……
Episode 18
Episode 18: Episode 18 (Oct 13, 2010)
The old staff of Tasty Food Cafe have all been sacked. TUNG wants to hire them but they turn down his kindness, as they do not want him to lose money again. TUNG makes up with SING. They even decide to become sworn brothers. HEI and SING accuse SHAN of stealing LEUNG. LEUNG tells them SHAN is his girlfriend as soon as he hears this. SHAN mistakenly thinks that LEUNG is only trying to protect her. She is therefore very glad when he tells her he means it. LEI overhears ON and NIN’s conversation about the fake will. She looks for evidence in his place but finds nothing. UNCLE CHAN, a tycoon in town, is renting out a piece of land at $1. TUNG and SING are interested. They would like to turn the land into a flea market where unemployed persons can run some small business. They put forward a “$1 Rental Proposal” to UNCLE CHAN. UNCLE CHAN like their idea. ON is furious. He also fears that the project will affect the Ngai’s Group……
Episode 19
Episode 19: Episode 19 (Oct 14, 2010)
CHI takes charge of the privatization plan. She shows off in front of PAUL. SHAN moves out of CHI’s house and will put up at LEUNG’s for the time being. There is a leap in the share price of Ngai’s Group’s shares. CHI suspects PAUL is rigging shareholders’ vote for the company. ON is drunk. LEI takes the opportunity to steal the keys to his office. She is astonished to see CHI in PAUL’s office. TUNG appears in court. He is touched to see that his previous employees have come to support him. Unfortunately, the situation is not too encouraging. After much persuasion, TUNG finally manages to convince UNCLE CHAN of renting the land to him at the price of one dollar. ON is very angry. He demands CHI to raise more capital. CHI deliberately gets close to PAUL and tries to download evidence of his evil deeds at his place. ON and PAUL are being investigated by the Securities and Futures Commission……
Episode 20
Episode 20: Episode 20 (Oct 15, 2010)
HEI is appointed Acting Chairman, whereas CHI is promoted Managing Director. The flea market opens today. UNCLE CHAN is very happy about how his land has become. SING advises LEUNG to run after LEI again, but LEUNG does not want to hurt SHAN. LEUNG’s hand has recovered. LEI encourages him to go to Vienna with LI. In fear of failure, he turns down her suggestion. LEI has made up her mind to work in Shanghai. Before she goes, she invites LI to listen to LEUNG play. LI decides to take LEUNG as his student and take him to Vienna. On the other hand, however, SHAN wants to return to the States to continue her studies. She hopes that LEUNG would marry her. ON has kidnapped HEI and CHI. Two years have passed. LEUNG, LEI and SHAN meet up under a star fruit tree. What have happened to HEI and SING, and TUNG and CHI then? Have they walked down the aisle with each other?
