The North has unexpectedly pushed forward and the stationed soldiers must protect the civilians still in the village. Tae Ho soon realizes that Soo Yeon's brother was a member of the Communist Party.
Thanks to Jang Woo's strategy the Southern soldiers are able to ambush the Northern tanks and the civilians are able to cross the river safely.
Tae Ho's platoon is loosing men left and right do to the fact there are so many men that were never meant to serve in the army.
Soo Yeon is told that her brother, Soo Hyuk, will be leaving for Pyeong Yang in his sick condition. She knows what will happen to her brother if she does not go with him, so she decides to get on the boat, and once again, leave Jang Woo's side.
Tae Ho decides to send Jang Woo, who is under arrest for insubordination, as the leader of a Special Force to ambush the North Korean soldiers at the 674 Hill.
After reclaiming Dabudong's 674 Hill from the North Korea, the Second Company is faced with the historical event of crossing the Nakdong River.
As soon as the Company arrives to a nearby village, they find that the people of the village were holding two North Korean soldiers as prisoners.
Tae Ho disobeys the orders given by Jang Woo, trusts the words of the captured North Korean Lieutenant which results in the death of many of their men.
Jang Woo plans a potential suicide mission to take back road number one and stresses that the Second Company will keep the promise they made to their comrades and win back their honor.
Both the Korean Armed Forces and their allied forces are in the run to get to Pyeong Yang first to win the honor of becoming a war hero. While advancing to the North, the Korean Armed Forces mistaken the US Armed Forces as their enemy and attack them.
Once Soo Yeon finds out that she lost her baby, she loses all hope in life and is ready to give up on saving other people's lives, when Myung Ho holds her hand, saving her from despair.
After treating Jang Woo's wound, Jang Woo decides to secretly run away with Soo Yeon.
Tae Ho stands as a testifier at Soo Yeon's hearing and states that he was affected by her doings, but also states that if it hadn't been for her, none of the soldiers in the Korean Armed Forces would have gotten treatment.
Jang Woo and his troops remain in Pyeong Yang to protect the line of defense but are outnumbered by the Chinese People's Volunteer Army and are forced to retreat.
In order to save his men, Jang Woo decides to lead his men back North, towards Pyeong Yang. Tae Ho argues that he is not doing that for the sake to save his men, but to use them as a human shield to help him get back to Soo Yeon.
As the Chinese People's Volunteer Army gets closer to attack the remnants of the Korean Second Company and the US Army soldiers, Jang Woo requests the Battalion Headquarters to fire within the position.
Tae Ho is told that Soo Yeon is alive and goes finds her to get her to treat Jang Woo's emotional illness.
Without the presence of Jang Woo, the Second Company's First Platoon gets isolated within the enemy's camp.
As soon as Soo Yeon hears that Man Yong had stepped on a mine, she prepares to treat him and follows Dal Mun.
