Anne has started work as a teacher at Avonlea school. Against all her principles she uses the cane to punish a pupil.
Alarm is caused by the disappearance of Dora. Terrified that she may have fallen into a well, Anne has gone to enlist the help of Harrison.
Anne and Diana have become friendly with the eccentric Lavendar Lewis. Charlotte E. Morgan, the famous romantic novelist, has called unexpectedly at Green Gables to see Anne.
Rachel has come to live at Green Gables and Anne has told Gilbert she can never marry him. Anne is overjoyed to learn that she can, after all, go to college.
Anne and Gilbert are now students at Redmond. Anne has met Roy and it is love at first sight on both sides.
