Based in the 1930's of Shanghai, China, this drama is a story about love, friendship, patriotism and desire. Shin Jung Tae (Kim Hyun Joong) is an outrageous and clumsy man, but has an unconditional love for his country and family. He was known as the best fighter in the alleys of Shanghai.

Season 1:
Young Jung Tae struggles to earn money for his sister, Chung Ah, who needs to have a surgery in Japan to live.
Jung Tae fights Dobinori to get their money back. Although Dobinori cannot return his money, they recognize his potential as a fighter and ask him to join them instead.
Gaya kisses Jung Tae and it breaks Ok Ryeon’s heart. While Ok Ryeon tries to win him back, the spark between Jung Tae and Gaya grows stronger.
Gaya screams to Shinyichi to tell her the secret behind her parents' death, but she must find it out herself.
Ok Ryeon treats Jung Tae’s wounds, pleading him to stop chasing bad guys. She offers him delicious dishes and tries to cheer him up, yet Jung Tae doesn’t seem to get excited by any of her efforts.
Shortly after Gaya’s visit to Leader Mo Il Hwa of Dandong to declare a war, Jung Tae also arrives in the city.

As Jung Tae refuses to pay respects for his father, Shin Young Chool, Shanghai's Leader Seol Doo Sung convinces him to hold his funeral and succeed the position of Club Shanghai's leader.
Jung Tae decides to stay in Shanghai and take revenge for the murder of his father, when Jung Jae Hwa successfully defends his position as the owner of Club Shanghai.
Jung Tae is severely injured from fighting the unidentifiable samurai, yet Ok Ryeon, still resentful about his absence during the flee from Shineuiju, refuses to help his treatment.
Jung Tae is arrested and sent to an interrogation prison, when he fights the police force to protect Ok Ryeon and Joseon refugees from the unfair enforcement of inspection.
Having witnessed the unique fighting technique of Wang Baek San, which is most likely to have murdered his father, Jung Tae determines to become stronger and outgrow Hwangbang.
Club Shanghai prepares its grand opening. While all of Shanghai’s public figures are invited and the top celebrities performing, the opening night of Club Shanghai will be magnificent and glamorous.
