Season 1:
Adopted as a baby from China, college student, Mei, has had a content upbringing as the daughter of professors. When she's contacted by her birth mother in China, a journey to discover her identity turns into a dangerous fight for justice.
A meeting with her brother's lawyer leaves Mei more determined to save him. Mei's birth mother opens up about why she had to give Mei away. Members of an activist movement are eager to assist Mei with her brother's case.
As Mei is plunged into extreme danger in her fight for justice, her life back home grows more distant. Mei risks everything for her brother's freedom. As things start to look positive, Mei encounters a setback that is almost more than she can bear.
Mei pleads with an influential man in her brother's case to come forward about his innocence. Mei and her birth mother visit her brother in jail before traveling to Beijing to bring the case to the attention of a petition lawyer.
