Season 1:
Boone confronts his parents with his decision to make music his career, with or without their support. Mr. Johnson dies and leaves his guitar to Boone. At the funeral Boone's parents announce they will support him in any career he chooses.
Boone is injured in an explosion at the airport, but his music takes on a new dimension when he develops a friendship with singer Lucky Parsons.
Boone and Rome's friendship is tested when they meet a beautiful 17-year-old bonde girl.

Boone gets into trouble with the law and almost misses his chance to perform at a war monument dedication.
Boone gets involved with a woman who has a five-year-old son and runs moonshine for her ex. Boone's parents are arrested and he puts himself in danger to protect the woman and her son.
Rome gets drafted and Boone enlists so they can be together. Boone fails the physical and is rejected. As Rome prepares to leave he hears the Korean War is over. While he is celebrating his motorcycle falls, crushing his knee and preventing him from going into the army.
Boone and Rome miss the senior prom to accompany Mr. Johnson to a nightclub.
Cousin Geneva leaves her husband and comes to Nashville to get Boone to help her launch a music career. Her first appearance does not go very well, but Boone discovers she has a talent for sewing. Geneva's husband joins her as she begins her new career as a seamstress.
