As KIT is about to summon SING to give evidence, the news of his death arrives. TANG LOK WAI is therefore released. VINCENT is astonished to learn that TANG LOK WAI has used him in his plot to kill the witness. Knowing why BEN has been trying to avoid her, LING gets so angry and blames him for being too childish. VINCENT is charged with conspiring to pervert the course of justice but is found not guilty, because JESSICA does not appear in court to testify against him. JESSICA gives VINCENT a slap when she knows that he has lied to exonerate himself from the charge. WAI will be granted the right to practice as a lawyer again. To express his deepest thanks to LI for her help and support all through these years, WAI invites her to dinner. LI has a lot of fantasies before she goes on the date but she gets just so disappointed after the dinner. BEN makes up with LING during a ride on the Ferris wheel.… ...

Newly registered barristers LOK BEN and CHUNG CHING LING meet in the court, where LING mistakes BEN for a rapist. BEN’s friend MA TSING KIN, who is charged with illegal possession and storage of dangerous drugs, is taken to the court. KIN pleads guilty to the crime but BEN points out that he has been bribed by a rich young man. After investigation, KIN is found innocent but BEN is dismissed from his job because that rich young man is a significant client of the legal firm BEN is working for. BEN goes to the court to look for job opportunities. There he meets his old colleague JESSICA CHEUNG SZE KA, who actually comes to see VINCENT CHEUK WAI MING, the barrister who appears in court. In the court, VINCENT questions the validity of the verdict.… ...
BEN asks LING about the possibility of an out-of-court settlement and the two of them have finally convinced their individual clients to accept the “18127” proposal. Barrister CHEUNG, who is LING’s mentor, is not happy with the way LING handles the case, and thus decides to dismiss her. LING comes to WAI’s legal firm for an interview, on the recommendation of BEN. In the meantime, VINCENT arrives to see WAI. BEN, LING, VINCENT and JESSICA are all employed by WAI. WAI takes the four young lawyers to the street to look for business opportunities but VINCENT, LING and JESSICA leave midway through. WAI and BEN meet a driver who gets into a fight after a car accident. The driver later becomes BEN’s client. NA comes to see JESSICA, which makes WAI believe that JESSICA is sent by NA to spy on him and to inquire into his financial circumstances. MAN, the child who is charged with assault, refuses to tell VINCENT and JESSICA what actually happened. KIN comes to deliver soft drinks and notices everything. He tries to comfort MAN by sharing his own experience and MAN finally agrees to disclose all the details. VINCENT appoints JESSICA to defend MAN in the court. For this matter, JESSICA goes to seek help from BEN after work. Meanwhile, LING returns to the office and is a little surprised to see them together. She suspects BEN and JESSICA are having a secret relationship. BEN, LING, MARY and her boyfriend JOE leave the court. Inside the lift, BEN is mistaken for a rapist and gets slapped in the face. Looking at his funny face, everybody bursts out laughing. JESSICA is about to appear in court but she is so nervous that she hides herself inside the toilet practicing Taekwondo.… ...
VINCENT and JESSICA want to present the psychological report on MAN but the judge has rejected their request. JESSICA waits for the judge outside his office so that she can ask him to read through the report when he walks out of the office after work. Meanwhile, KIN passes by and he offers to give her a lift to see the judge. Along the way, KIN realizes he has special feelings for JESSICA. VINCENT summons MAN to appear in court. During the proceedings, MAN makes a fool of himself and is rebuked for it by his father. A verdict has been reached and JESSICA asks VINCENT out for dinner. She gets all dressed up for the date but when she sees LING, BEN and all other colleagues arrive one by one, she gets extremely disappointed. KIN has successfully completed the probationary period. JESSICA praises him for his hard work and KIN is very thankful to her.… ...
BEN’s mother YUEN SIU FONG and his sister LOK NGA are grateful to VINCENT for saving them from embarrassment. As a token of thanks, they invite him home for dinner. But their greeting is so enthusiastic that it has almost scared him off. BEN gets a call requesting his help with a case. Immediately he goes with VINCENT and WAI to the spot to see what is going on. Inside DR. LAM’s car, they find a bloody knife as well as a bottle in which a broken finger is kept. BEN, WAI and VINCENT have successfully convinced LAM to call the police. LAM is taken to the police station and FAN is to take statements from him. BEN and WAI do not realize FAN is VINCENT’s father until they are told. Knowing that the broken finger belongs to a girl called TINA, BEN and VINCENT goes to TINA’s pub to start an investigation. Being so worried about the guys, LING and JESSICA decide to follow them. On the way they meet a group of rascals and are harassed by them.… ...
JESSICA is to deal with a sexual assault case. She is very nervous when meeting the client and she even advises the client to plead guilty. The client is so angry that he has made a complaint against her. BEN, VINCENT and LING show full support for JESSICA and JESSICA is thrilled to have received encouragement from VINCENT. VINCENT meets LING by chance. On the way, LING tells him a love story which was about ice-cream and which took place in her teens. LING meets BEN on her way home and BEN insists on escorting her back to her flat. Along the way, they see a man who seizes his girlfriend and kisses her by force. As LING is shouting at him to stop it, the guy approaches her and is about to give her a slap. BEN hurts his hand when he is trying to rescue LING. LING feels sorry for getting him injured, and to express her thanks, she offers to dress his wound and cooks him a bowl of noodles.… ...
VINCENT calls LING up telling her that he has won the case and reminding her to wait for him. BEN goes to meet LING, where he sees VINCENT sitting in an ice-cream van going all the way to pick LING up. BEN is left with a feeling of disappointment when he sees the scene. BEN meets JESSICA, who is waiting alone for VINCENT at the restaurant. He cannot bear to tell her the truth and the two lonely souls end up spending the night drinking themselves into oblivion. BEN escorts JESSICA back to her home and in turn interrupts NA’s date with her business partner LEE MING KIT. For the whole night, BEN sleeps on the floor of JESSICA’s bedroom. The next morning when they are on their way to work, they meet their colleague LEE MEI LI. LI is shocked to learn that BEN has spent a night at JESSICA’s home and the news soon spreads across the office.… ...
Noticing that BEN has made great efforts to patch LING’s handbag, VINCENT realizes BEN must be very fond of LING. The two young men decide to have a fair competition to see who can win the girl’s heart. BEN gives the handbag, which has been patched, back to LING while VINCENT has got her a brand new one. LING has finally chosen the gift from VINCENT. WAI points out that BEN and VINCENT should not have investigated MRS. CHING’s background and that the only way to help her is to make MR. CHING confess his crime. With all the efforts made, BEN can finally convince MR. CHING to turn himself in. WAI is astonished to hear that his wife KWAN is going to buy a new flat. Immediately he flies off to stop her. WAI and KWAN meet NA by chance and NA reveals to KWAN that WAI has been deeply in debt. KWAN rushes to WAI’s legal firm and falls down in a faint after checking the accounts.… ...
BEN has won the case, which means his parents will be able to get back all the money they have invested. After leaving the court, BEN and his parents have lunch at a restaurant, where they meet LING and her parents. The two families sit around the same table and have a nice chat together. LING’s mother LEUNG FUNG PING finds that the words written by herself has become the inscription on a sex magazine. BEN disguises himself as a pimp and takes LING to the studio for a photo shoot. Inside the studio, BEN manages to cut off the electricity supply and takes a couple of photos as evidence. The staff there soon discover that the trouble is caused by them and they have to flee away at once. In the confusion, LING has accidentally injured BEN. VINCENT, after knowing this, offers to help LING but LING turns him down. LING has successfully sued the magazine by differentiating copyright from the right of possession.… ...
NA comes to WAI’s legal firm to see BEN and LING. She urges them to remind HO not to disturb CHAN KA WING and her daughter YAN YAN any more. BEN and LING advise HO not to make contact with YAN until a later date but HO insists on revealing his true relationship with YAN. JESSICA arrives early at the venue for the Christmas party so that she will feel better prepared to express her love for VINCENT. To her surprise, LING and VINCENT arrive together as a pair of lovers and happily exchange Christmas presents. JESSICA looks startled to see them so close. BEN, who is much worried about JESSICA, stays with her all through the night to give her support and encouragement. HO manages to arrange a DNA test to prove that YAN is his daughter. He plans to present the DNA test report to the judge when appearing in court. A woman named AUNT MAY goes to the legal firm to see LING and tells her about her true identity.… ...
Being brought up in a dysfunctional family, LING feels particular sympathy for HO. She is then determined to help HO strive for the right of access to YAN. In the court, LING presents enough evidence to prove that HO is in a better financial position than WING and that WING’s husband has disowned his illegitimate son. Finally a verdict has been reached. PING comes to the court to look for LING but LING does not give her a warm greeting. VINCENT rises to fame soon after he has won the case against the computer services company. VINCENT suggests LING go on a trip to Japan for relaxation and BEN offers to finish the work for them. Every day, PING goes to JESSICA’s home to cook meals and do housework for LING without letting her know. LING comes to discover this and after a nice talk with each other, LING and PING finally make up. KIT has run over a man and the victim dies later.… ...
NA points out that KIT is likely to lose the case, which will in turn cause their legal firm to suffer loss. She gives him a good telling-off and blames him for failing to give her a sense of security. VINCENT and JESSICA come to where the accident happened and they discover that the victim ERIC had had a quarrel with his wife BONNIE and that he had thought of killing himself before he ran into the road. VINCENT pays BONNIE a visit hoping to reach a settlement with her, but in vain. BEN goes to the store to which SAM set fire. He checks around to look for evidence, during which he finds that the storekeeper FAT is a grumpy fella who has a nasty suspicious mind. As invited, BEN and LING go to SAM’s home to have dinner. BEN has even more sympathy for SAM when he knows the lad had to steal money to support his sister and was found guilty of theft for his sister’s sake.… ...
BEN comes to realize it is all a plot by SAM and MAY. He flies into a rage and tells them off for making use of his sympathy. LING cannot make it to the celebration party for VINCENT, for she wants to stay with BEN to give him succor and consolation. After BEN has returned home, LING phones VINCENT. Over the phone, VINCENT sounds a little indifferent and gives the impression that he wants to end the call as soon as possible. But to her surprise, VINCENT is waiting for her outside her home. YU is accused of stealing his relative’s jewelry. Having been cheated once, BEN tends not to trust others too easily. He questions YU as if he is a convict. Realizing that BEN’s attitude may just make things worse, JESSICA tries to stop him and offers to handle the case. NA decides to break up her partnership with KIT and states that she has never been in love with him.… ...
BEN tries his very best to look for evidence to prove that KEEN is not guilty of the charge of theft. JESSICA replays the security camera footage from the lift, in the hope of finding the hidden evidence which may help prove YU’s innocence. From the footage WAI spots that YU was accompanied by a prostitute when he got into the lift. WAI believes that YU has been trying to conceal something because he is unwilling to let anyone know he got involved with a prostitute. The lost jewelry is finally found and YU is released immediately. This is the first time JESSICA has won a case. All of KEEN’s neighbors who show up in the court testify and intercede for KEEN. MAU gets deeply touched by what KEEN has said during the proceedings and finally he decides not to sue him. WAI feels for KWAN and really cannot bear to see her suffer so much stress from her work as an Insurance Broker. This has made NA so jealous.… ...
WAI needs a barrister to represent him, so his staff turn to NA for help. NA discusses with KIT, who is appointed the prosecutor of the case, the possibility of changing the charge of murder to the charge of manslaughter. But KIT has long been jealous of WAI, so he rejects her request at once. NA and all the staff are busy working on WAI’s case while KWAN does not seem to be able to do anything to help. In the detention center, WAI and NA are discussing the case. KWAN loses her temper when she notices that WAI and NA have an unbelievably good mutual understanding of each other. KIT asks NA to be his girlfriend and in return he will try to be lenient with WAI when dealing with his case. NA, however, turns him down. WAI asks NA to do him a favor. NA tries to convince KWAN that she is just the woman WAI needs while WAI tells KWAN that he has had an affair with NA.… ...
NA goes to WAI’s legal firm and advises BEN and VINCENT to apply to become a barrister. She even offers to sub-let part of her newly established chamber, which is located in the same building with WAI’s legal firm, to BEN and VINCENT. WAI owes a lot of money and really does not want to get KWAN involved in his debts. For KWAN’s sake, he asks BEN to proceed with his application for a divorce order. MOK CHUN KEI, a client of VINCENT’s ex-girlfriend EVA, claims that EVA get deals with her clients by sleeping with them. EVA plans to sue KEI for defamation and thus turns to VINCENT for help. LING sympathizes with EVA and offers to handle her case. Knowing that VINCENT is one of EVA’s clients, LING asks him to testify for EVA. VINCENT reveals to BEN that he has had sex with EVA recently and that he is afraid the secret will come out as soon as he appears in court. BEN suggests VINCENT tell LING the truth.… ...
JESSICA has successfully convinced KEI’s secretary to appear in court and testify against KEI. The case is finally settled. VINCENT apologizes to LING but LING claims that she needs some time to think about their relationship. On the tram, LING breaks down weeping and BEN tries to give her some words of comfort. NA’s chamber is contacted to handle a murder case after it is officially open for business. VINCENT is busy helping his cousin POON MAN DIK to search for his lost wife JANET. The murder case is then passed to BEN and LING offers to become his assistant. In order to help reconcile her with VINCENT, BEN would rather have JESSICA as his assistant. BEN and JESSICA have a meeting with SHIU FEI, the person who is charged with murder. They notice that FEI has been trying to conceal something, so they believe that there must be something wrong with him.… ...
VINCENT and LING have a talk with DIK and JANET. With all the efforts spent, VINCENT and LING can finally help JANET overcome her psychological barrier. VINCENT asks LING out on St. Valentine’s Day. LING goes to the restaurant but eventually she refuses to show up. While waiting for LING, VINCENT gets a message telling him that FAN has been sent to the hospital. A drug trafficker HAK CHAI accuses FAN of setting him up, which irks FAN beyond measure. FAN breaks out into such a fury that he needs to be hospitalized. VINCENT goes to LING’s home and gives her a mobile phone into which the ring tone of the first song they danced to has been downloaded. JESSICA is shocked to know that KIN has been in love with her and she states clearly that he is not the one she is looking for. For JESSICA’s sake, KIN engages in a series of physical exercises hoping to keep himself fit and healthy, but he ends up making himself ill.… ...
The prosecutor questions the validity of FAN’s statements. Finally FAN decides to tell the truth and he is found guilty of conspiring to pervert the course of justice. FAN pleads guilty by letter and VINCENT tries to defend him as best as he can. Despite this, FAN gets punished for what he did. In the chamber, LING gives VINCENT a few words of comfort. All of a sudden, VINCENT takes her in his arms, holding her tightly and trying to kiss her. LING struggles and immediately pushes him away. Meanwhile, BEN passes by and notices everything. He urges VINCENT to stop it at once but VINCENT gets furious and tells him off for throwing his father in prison. LING stands up for BEN and gives VINCENT a good dressing-down. She emphasizes that she has already broken up with VINCENT, which leaves him heartbroken. VINCENT reveals to LING that BEN has been in love with her and means to speak ill of him. The three of them finally break up in discord.… ...
WAI has accidentally ripped his trousers when he is trying to avoid NA. LI offers to amend the trousers for him, which makes NA and other colleagues suspect that WAI has had an affair with LI. LI receives a letter from the legal representative of her ex-boyfriend NG CHUN MAN. Seven years ago, CHUN MAN left for Singapore without saying goodbye and now he wants to get back the flat in which LI has been living and to recover the rent in arrears over the past seven years. VINCENT is appointed the legal representative of CHUN MAN while BEN and LING are to defend LI in the court. CHUN MAN claims that he has never ever lived with LI but BEN has successfully proved that he has told a pack of lies. VINCENT asks LI if she is provided with free accommodation by becoming CHUN MAN’s mistress. He speaks with a sharp tongue and his questions have embarrassed LI immensely.… ...
NA asks WAI out for a date and BEN advises him to adopt the most extreme methods so as to drive NA off. BEN goes to visit his old schoolmate and his good friend TAI YAU FAI, who has been kept in prison for seven years. FAI keeps claiming that he is innocent and that the man nicknamed SHAW PAO is the one who killed the girl SUEN MABEL after he failed to rape her. BEN decides to seek legal redress for FAI and JESSICA is willing to work as his assistant. WAI means to make himself look awful when he goes to the pub to meet NA. His ugly looks and disgusting manners really make NA sick. WAI is thrilled to pieces when NA asks to break up with him. BEN and JESSICA discover that LING was the prosecution witness and a very good friend of MABEL. This really puzzles BEN.… ...
FAI can finally appeal against his conviction. To defend his friend FAI, BEN has to question the validity of the statements given by LING, the only witness. BEN feels trapped in a dilemma in which he has to choose between friendship and love. In the court, LING insists that FAI is the real murderer of MABEL. BEN points out that the sense of guilt that swept over LING made her so desperate to seek revenge for her friend and it was probably the bad impression she had about FAI that made her believe that FAI was the murderer. LING, of course, denies it. After knowing that BEN has asked JESSICA out for dinner, VINCENT immediately invites her to watch a movie with him. JESSICA is thrilled to have a chance to go out with VINCENT and despite her leg injury, she decides to go on the date. Noticing this, KIN feels extremely upset and jealous.… ...
LING is invited to BEN’s home for dinner. FAI, who is also one of the guests invited, does not show up on time, which makes LING worry that FAI is not willing to forgive her. LING is much relieved to hear that FAI has already forgiven her. VINCENT is confident that he will win the case against TANG LOK WAI but sadly he has lost his friends. JESSICA is the only one who feels sympathy for him. LING can finally overcome her psychological barrier and returns to the scene, where she finds some new clues. According to the statements given by TANG LOK WAI’s driver SING, TANG LOK WAI is likely to be found guilty. VINCENT wonders why KIT has suddenly become so confident about the case. He means to approach JESSICA trying to get some useful information from her. VINCENT persuades TANG LOK WAI to plead guilty to the charge of manslaughter but he refuses. VINCENT later meets SING to discuss something and he is spotted by BEN.… ...

VINCENT requests BEN to represent him in court and he feels a deep sense of regret for what he has done. LING suspects that VINCENT has killed TANG LOK WAI so as to cover up some of his crimes. Hearing what LING says, JESSICA flies into a fury and gives her a severe telling-off. She points out that LING has had prejudice against VINCENT and that her accusation is not fair to him. VINCENT makes a formal apology to JESSICA, and states that there is nothing to regret even if he is going to lose everything now that he has won back his friends. LING and JESSICA apologize to each other and work together with BEN on VINCENT’s case. The statements given by the owner of the pub have put VINCENT in a very unfavorable situation whilst those given by LING and JESSICA are considered not convincing enough due to their close relationships with VINCENT.… ...
