Wong Ka-Nam disappeared to the United States, leaving behind her son and husband in Hong Kong. When her husband dies in an airplane accident looking for her, Wong Ka-Nam's son, Luk Chit is taken into the custody of her mother-in-law, Ng Hang. After eighteen long years, Wong Ka-Nam wishes to see her son again and returns to Hong Kong. However, she is met with adamant resistance from her mother-in-law, who views Ka-Nam as bad luck, blaming her for the death of her son. Highly protective of her grandson and fearing that Wong Ka-Nam will attempt to take him away, Ka Nam's mother-in-law does everything in her power to keep mother and son apart. However, Wong Ka-Nam is ironically assisted by her own son, who befriends her and secures her office job in his advertising agency.

After living in the States for seventeen years, WONG KA-LAM returns to Hong Kong for further developing. She plans to put up at her good friend SIU PING’s. To her surprise, PING has separated with her husband, JAMES. Due to financial concern, the couple PING still lives under the same roof. To help PING out, LAM promises to get a job as soon as she can. Referred by JAMES, LAM goes for an interview at the gymnasium that he works for. She is on her way to there when a robbery takes place. She is taken hostage. Fortunately, NG HANG, a Tai Chi master, comes to her rescue. LAM is very impressed by HANG’s kung fu skills. HANG has scraped a car accidentally when she was saving LAM. LAM arrives at the gymnasium at last. The manager of the gymnasium makes things difficult for her. LAM stomps off in a rage. JAMES loses his job because of LAM. LAM would like to learn Tai Chi from HANG.… ...
LAM has got a job at the Creative Department of Xing Advertising Ltd., the advertising firm that CHIT works for. On her first day at work, her superior MO KEI YUNG tells her that DIANA, the CEO, and her assistant, KAU TSUN, are regarded by other colleagues as the Axis of Evil. LAM does not take it too seriously though. Soon, LAM spots that everyone at the company is afraid of DIANA, so much so that they even avoid going to the washroom at the same time as she does. DIANA has left her cell phone in the washroom. LAM sees TUNG TUNG taking it away. DIANA calls the police when she finds out later that her cell phone is missing. The police officers are conducting a body search while LAM discovers that DIANA’s cell phone is in her handbag! In the twinkling of an eye she slips it into the bag of CHIT, who is leaving the company. YUNG finds that the phone is with CHIT after work.… ...
DIANA suspects that LAM he is a mole sent by Xing’s potential buyer, MR. LI, because of the cell phone issue. YUNG finds LAM suspicious, too. He incites his fellow colleagues at the Creative Department to edge LAM out. CHIT tries all he can to stop them but to no avail. LAM, as if not affected at all, is devoted to her work as usual. Apart from asking TSUN to pass on the account books of the firm to LAM, DIANA also fawns on LAM from time to time. The others therefore firmly believe that LAM is a mole. The truth comes out when DIANA takes LAM to meet up with MR. LI. Having made a mistake, DIANA fires LAM with an excuse. LAM is packing her stuff when YIN WAI-SHUN, President of Xing’s parent company, Yin’s Group, shows up suddenly and demands to talk to LAM. It turns out that they have known each other for a long time. SHUN appoints LAM Corporate Development Consultant, authority of office equals to that of DIANA.
It is very unusual indeed that LAM is promoted Corporate Development Consultant and that her authority of office is the same as that of DIANA. DIANA tries every way to attack the Creative Department during a meeting. LAM makes utmost efforts to fight back and turns the tables in the end. TSUN learns that YUNG is meeting with SHUN. Later, he deduces from what YUNG says that YUNG and his team might have found out about the secret agreement between DIANA and MR. LI. TSUN reports what he has found to DIANA without delay. DIANA asks him to dig out more information from YUNG. As for herself, she goes to see SHUN with an excuse. TSUN believes that YUNG has recorded the secret in his MP3 player and so tries to steal it. He fails despite his several attempts. YUNG has lent his MP3 player to his colleagues but they have lost it. This means he has lost the evidence of DIANA’s secret agreement with MR. LI as well.… ...
WAH goes to HANG’s flat to tidy up as usual in the morning. He notices that CHIT is very obsessed with the Internet game that he wrote. He reminds CHIT not to be too obsessive. CHIT is having breakfast when he receives the ice cream sent from Switzerland by TIN TSOI-SHAN, an intimate friend of HANG’s. CHIT and WAH are teasing HANG for her relationship with SHAN when CHIT’s cell phone rings. CHIT goes out as soon as he hangs up. HANG mistakenly believes that CHIT is displeased about her relationship with SHAN. HANG goes to the airport to pick SHAN up. On her way back, she sees someone trying to jump down from a building. A jacket falls down from the roof of the building. WANG recognizes that it is CHIT’s jacket and so thinks that it is CHIT who is up there trying to commit suicide. As a matter of fact, the man who is trying to jump down from the building is CHIT’s net friend, nicknamed The Son of Wind.… ...
HANG is angry to know that CHIT is having breakfast with LAM. At the cafeteria of the firm, CHIT and LAM are chatting happily until he is asked about his mother. CHIT’s co-staff praise him for his recent improvement. LAM is pleased for him. CHIT would like to buy some new photo equipment. LAM tells him that a friend of hers happen to be selling the same model that he wants. She also tells him that she can ask her friend for a good price if he is interested. CHIT is thrilled. He tells HANG about this when he gets home, only to be ridiculed for buying booty. CHIT checks with LAM about the equipment. He is relived when she guarantees him that it comes from a trustful source. LAM goes to buy the equipment, which she plans to resell to CHIT at a lower price. In the meantime, HANG shows up…
TSUN applies for entertainment fees in advance. His application is rejected as YUNG has done so before him. TSUN goes to YUNG, who shows him an application endorsed by LAM. TSUN is dumbfounded. Worrying that DIANA’s power at the firm will be weakened, TSUN advises DIANA to take the initiative to deal with LAM. SHUN has received a resignation letter, which has been signed by DIANA. But when he asks her about it, she denies she has anything to do with it. She also implies that it is written by LAM indeed. SHUN talks to LAM. DIANA thinks that her plot is successful, but SHUN only wants to chat with LAM, who is an old friend of his. SHUN tells DIANA that he is going to transfer LAM to the office in Holland to take over the post DIANA has been longing for. LAM and CHIT want to find out who wrote the letter. They discover that it is in fact a ploy of TSUN and DIANA to get rid of LAM. LAM and CHIT show SHUN the evidence.… ...
CHIT is turning eighteen soon. UNCLE KEUNG, an old neighbor of his, pays him a sudden visit and hands him a letter that sent to his place by mistake many years ago. CHIT is astonished to see that it was from his mother, WONG FA, whom he has lost contact with for ages. Seeing that CHIT does not have any idea to manage the letter, WAH tricks him into opening it. In the letter, FA wrote that she had returned to Hong Kong when CHIT was four years old, and that he had pushed her down the escalator by accident. CHIT is upset upon finishing reading it. He goes to SHUN, a good friend of his late father, to ask him about his mother. SHUN takes out a pile of letters that LAM has sent him over the years but bounced back by HANG. Looking at the letters, CHIT is even more confused. LAM, who is watching them nearby, bursts into tears. CHIT does not know whether he should read the letters or not.… ...
CHIT cannot get over the letters. SHUN cheers him up and he devotes himself to work again. TUNG wears high heels to work today. She tries to attract CHIT’s attention with her legs but he is only interested in girls who wear flats. A girl in flats shows up at CHIT’s house on a rainy day with a letter FA wrote to CHIT. CHIT loses his temper as soon as he sees the letter. The girl demands that CHIT buy her a new pair of shoes as she has damaged hers when she was picking up the letter. So CHIT goes to buy the girl a new pair of shoes of the same design and brand. But the fact is, the girl’s shoes are actually counterfeit. CHIT laughs in bitterness, as he has spent all of his money on the shoes.
CHIT’s client MR. CHAN is very impressed by the sashimi commercial that CHIT is responsible for. As a token of thanks, MR. CHAN gives CHIT the sashimi used for the shooting. LAM suggests throwing a party in CHIT’s house. She also volunteers to prepare some dessert. CHIT tells HANG about the party when he gets home. HANG is excited by the idea. She offers to prepare something too when she hears that LAM is going to make the dessert. As a matter of fact, HANG is a lousy cook. Nobody in the family enjoys what she cooks. She plans to challenge LAM with shark fins. On the day of the party, HANG is confident that her dish will be very popular. Unfortunately, YUNG kicks over her pot accidentally. LAM makes it up for HANG secretly, not knowing that SHAN has already made a contingency plan…
YUNG arrives at the company early in the morning. He sighs with emotion when he sees YAT teaching CHIT photography techniques. LAM and DIANA announce that the company has just got a new jewelry client and for this reason, the company has to put up its security system. Just when they are making the announcement, the burglar alarm goes off. It is discovered later that SHIM, the only staff at the company who uses the rear door, has triggered the security system by accident. TSUN blames SHIM. The next day, the police arrive at XING to inform the staff that the burglar has been caught. Furious, DIANA wants to fire SHIM, who is responsible for locking up the rear door every day after work. She, nevertheless, hesitates, as rumor has it that SHIM is a trusted subordinate of SHUN’s father. Lost at what to do, DIANA requests LAM to lay SHIM off.
Frugal Girl, the girl whom found CHIT’s letter the other day, calls CHIT when he is tidying things up at the company. She demands that he treat her to a meal to thank her for what she has done. CHIT’s teammates wrongly believe that he has a new girlfriend. While CHIT himself does not pay any attention to what they say, LAM takes it very seriously and even calls HANG. The next day, CHIT bumps into Frugal Girl on the mini-bus when he is on the way to SHAN’s place. He is embarrassed to the core when he kisses Frugal Girl by accident. When he gets to the office, he is shocked to know that the incident on the mini-bus has been videotaped and uploaded onto the Web.
Everyone at the department is working overtime except YUNG, who claims that he is going to the racecourse. YAT lets him go and takes up his work. TSUN tells YUNG off when he sees this. With just a phone call, YUNG manages to solve the problem his colleagues are facing with. MING LEUNG, YAT’s wife, comes to pick up YAT. She finds it unfair that her husband has to work overtime because of YUNG. LEUNG sees YUNG and his ex-wife KUI MEI-KIU, when she gets back to the police station. YUNG and KIU were taken to the police station for fighting at the racecourse. LEUNG learns from the conversation between YUNG and YAT how YUNG took care of YAT when YAT first entered the advertising field.
CHIT drinks LAM’s coffee by mistake during a meeting. LAM does not mind though. What is more, she continues drinking it. Her act surprises everyone. CHIT decides to keep a distance from her. CHIT asks SHUN for advice as to how to decline LAM’s “love” for him in a tactful way. With a view to preventing LAM’s secret from coming to light, SHUN tells him briefly about the romance between his late father, KIN, and LAM. Many years ago, LAM’s father, CHEONG, decided to immigrate overseas suddenly. This came as a big blow to LAM for she had just been accepted by a university. One day, HANG saved her when she was wandering on the street. HANG also went to reason with CHEONG when she learnt about LAM’s story. Later, because of a fire caused by LAM, HANG’s house was destroyed and LAM’s relationship with KIN was also revealed…
DIANA invites YAT to lunch. TSUN, a secret admirer of DIANA, is anxious. In order to win YAT over, DIANA lures YAT to develop an affair with her. TSUN stomps off in a rage. TSUN is eager to find out what the meeting is actually about and so tries hard to please YUNG. However, YAT keeps his mouth shut no matter what he does. SHUN calls for a meeting with YAT and DIANA with no apparent reason. YUNG and TSUN peel at SHUN’s office to see what is going on in there. They hear SHUN asking YAT and DIANA to “give him a name”, and then their names are mentioned. YUNG and TSUN worry that they will become the victims of the company’s lay-off scheme…
HANG is practicing Tai Chi at the park when she sees three youngsters smoking. She goes up and gives them a dressing down, threatening to call the police if they do not stop. The three leave resentfully. HANG is going home after the Tai Chi lesson when the three young persons show up to revenge her. WAH steps up to protect her, who is his employer, but he blacks out. CHIT gets a call from HANG telling him that WAH has gone missing. CHIT tells LAM that he has to leave earlier. LAM offers to give him a lift. In her car, CHIT recalls how he and WAH met each other. WAH is found in an alley, dressed as a woman and depressed. This reminds CHIT of how WAH was dressed up as a girl by his grandfather for superstitious reasons for three whole months when he was a child. CHIT determines to do something to cheer his friend up.
WAH goes to a bakery in his neighborhood to buy cream buns very often recently. His real motive of course is to see the shop assistant, SZE. WAH has received an email from his Internet friend KITTEN inviting him to meet up with each other. WAH asks CHIT to attend the appointment and turns down KITTEN’s love for him. YUNG volunteers to go for CHIT. On the day of the appointment, WAH gets to where CHIT is meeting KITTEN to see how KITTEN looks like. He is surprised to see that KITTEN is SZE. He tries to stop CHIT from coming but he is too late. In the evening, CHIT gets an email of consolation from his Internet friend GIAN. He suspects that WAH is GIAN but WAH denies it. CHIT wants to pair up WAH and SZE.
In the morning when she wakes up, LAM finds PING is in a particularly good mood today. This is because she is going to sign the divorce agreement today with JAMES. PING arrives at the law firm on time but JAMES is nowhere to be seen. PING blames JAMES and tells him not to pester her any more. JAMES’ heart breaks. The model for LAM’s TV commercial fails to show up. LAM recommends JAMES to her client. JAMES becomes very popular after the commercial has come out. Many women, among them artistes, want to hire him as their personal fitness trainer. PING is so jealous that she wants to start over again with JAMES. JAMES pays no attention to her, and says that he will go to the law firm for the divorce agreement…
DIANA calls for an emergency meeting with the Creative Department in preparation for their clients from Italy. SHUN shows up in the middle of the meeting and appoints LAM to be the person in charge of the project, his reason being she can speak Italian. A colleague has found LAM’s wallet and asks TSUN to give it back to her. TSUN opens the wallet, and discovers that LAM is allergic to peanuts. An idea occurs to him. He adds peanuts to all the food that can be found at the company. Secondly, he replaces the anti-allergy pills in LAM’s wallet with vitamins before he gives the wallet back to her. Out of his expectation, LAM does not touch any of the food. Just when he thinks that his plot has failed, LAM eats the chocolate that CHIT gives her. The chocolate contains peanuts. LAM has allergic reaction. She hides at SHUN’s office. TSUN reports the “good news” to DIANA as soon as he can…
CHIT goes to a convenience store to buy magazines. To his surprise, Frugal Girl, the girl he kissed the other day by accident, works there. Frugal Girl’s elder brother, her only family, has been injured and so she has to work part-time. CHIT suggests her working part-time at his advertising firm. She hesitates, as her brother is very strict with her and forbids her from getting in touch with the world outside. After thinking about it for some while, she decides to go for it without telling her brother. Apparently, CHIT’s colleagues are more in interested in Frugal Girl’s relationship with CHIT than her ability. TUNG, who has been secretly in love with CHIT, regards Frugal Girl as her rival in love. CHIT did not know until now that Frugal Girl’s real name is CHEUNG MEI-YIU. YIU gets the job. Everybody at the company likes her. There is not concealing the truth. YIU’s brother interrogates CHIT…
LAM pays respect to the grave of her late husband, LUK KIN. It is KIN’s birthday tomorrow. CHIT and SHAN tidy up the things he had left behind. CHIT breaks his father’s photo frame carelessly. When he is picking up the broken pieces, he finds a photo of LAM and his father underneath another photo. CHIT and HANG visit KIN’s grave. When they get there, they see a bunch of yellow flowers. CHIT believes that the flowers are from his mother, WONG FA. Seeing that HANG is displeased, he does not say anything. CHIT asks LAM what kind of person his mother is when he is returning the photo to her. HANG asks LAM for an explanation for why CHIT has been so interested in his mother recently. SHUN gives the emails CHIT’s mother has sent him over the years back to CHIT. CHIT is going out when HANG tells him in tears the reason why she hates FA so much. On the other side, LAM sits in front of the computer the whole evening waiting for CHIT’s emails…
YIU goes to Xing to collect her wage. Although TUNG can see that CHIT takes very good care of YIU, she still tries all she can to promote herself as the best choice for “the best girlfriend”. TUNG approaches WAH with a view to getting close to CHIT. WAH works as a domestic helper for HANG. TUNG suggests taking over his job; he rejects her immediately. TUNG learns at a wedding banquet of a relative that WAH and she are cousins. Using her relationship with WAH, she forces WAH to pretend to be sick and let her help out at CHIT’s place. On top of doing all the household chores, she also practices Tai Chi with HANG. HANG appreciates TUNG even more when she knows that TUNG knows Tai Chi. HANG calls CHIT and asks him to go for yum cha with TUNG, TUNG’s mother and her. In order to leave a bad impression to TUNG’s mother, CHIT deliberately shouts at TUNG. To his surprise, the effect is contrary to what he has expected…
TOMMY, PING’s new boyfriend, visits her at her place. TOMMY is a badminton coach. He challenges JAMES to a badminton game; the latter accepts the challenge instantly. JAMES cannot make it in the end because of work. According to LAM’s observation, the person who is most disappointed by the cancellation of the game is not TOMMY but PING, who wants to see the two men competing for her. Upon hearing the offer of “an annual salary of one million dollars and a team of ten members”, YUNG accepts the offer in no time. Xing is going to sell a creative plan to a Taiwanese food product company whose men in charge are notorious for being demanding. The staffs at Xing are discussing how to deal with these clients. As SHAN always accompanies HANG to her Tai Chi lessons, rumors are going around about HANG “taking care” of him. To stop the rumors from circulating, she demands SHAN to find something meaningful to do. He explains that it is because of his good time management that he can spend a lot of time being with her. Under her pressure, he reveals that it is his dream to open a French restaurant. HANG supports him and urges him to start working towards his dream. HANG has found a restaurant that matches their requirements. To please her, SHAN takes out his checkbook and writes a check for three hundred thousand dollars to the owner on the spot. DIANA looks at him in despise. DIANA’s clothes is ruined when she and YAT are going to meet up with a client. YAT takes her home and lends her LEUNG’s clothes. DIANA puts a lipstick on YAT’s bed and perfumes the room with her fragrance deliberately. LEUNG spots that something is wrong when she gets home but she does not say a word. YAT’s colleagues advise him to explain to LEUNG before DIANA goes too far but he does not think it is necessary. On the other hand, LEUNG invites YAT’s colleagues to lunch so as to find out whom the lipstick belongs to…
HANG’s Tai Chi students suggest opening up a Tai Chi gymnasium for her. As it was HANG’s late master’s wish to set up a gymnasium, she supports the idea instantly. SHUN asks YAT to take care of a client who is interested in a commercial package of their firm. YAT and his teammates are shocked and surprised that the client is no other than HANG. YAT and his team take special care of HANG and tailor-make a commercial for her. HANG, however, has been very unreasonable and making things difficult for them. All are annoyed but yet cannot complain. A student of HANG, LI YAU-FOOK, comes to the firm and requests LAM to agree to whatever HANG requests for the time being. LAM finds FOOK’s request unusual. It turns out that FOOK is going to sell the gymnasium to a tycoon overseas for his own profit. LAM lets HANG know about FOOK’s evil deed with a trick.… ...
A tycoon in town, MR. LEE, wants Xing to shoot a TV commercial for his new lover, TO BING-BING. YAT makes it clearly that he is not going to do it for BING is notorious for her ill temper. SHUN orders TSUN to persuade YAT. TSUN knees down and pleads YAT, who agrees unwillingly. As expected, BING’s attitude at work is beyond tolerance. DIANA volunteers to be her assistant for the smooth shooting of the commercial. BING throws away DIANA’s lucky bracelet. TSUN cannot bear to see this and gives her a good telling-off. BING demands MR. LEE to teach TSUN a lesson yet before he could do so, DIANA has already fired TSUN. TSUN begs DIANA to let him stay in tears. On seeing this, BING asks DIANA to give TSUN a second chance. The project is finished at last. DIANA visits a fortune-teller with BING.… ...
CHIT has won in a photography competition. His colleagues plan to celebrate with him. LAM invites HANG to join them; HANG accepts the invitation readily. HANG does not show up at the celebration dinner in the end. CHIT calls her to see what has happened. She tells him that she has gone to a banquet of a relative instead. But the truth is she felt heart pain when she was on the way to CHIT’s celebration dinner. Therefore she has gone to the hospital instead. The doctor suspects that HANG has the heart disease that runs in her family. LAM urges HANG to go for a body check-up as soon as possible. On the day LAM returns to the States for his father’s legacy, she is surprised that HANG has to face her illness on her own. Worried, she rushes to see HANG at her place. HANG is deeply touched. Before she goes to the check-up, HANG takes LAM to a law firm and asks her to take care of her assets. The check-up reports that HANG is healthy.… ...
YUNG has got some tips on horse racing but he does not have any money in his betting account. He turns to TSUN, who demands that he pay him in advance. YUNG asks CHIT to lend him the money and gives it to TSUN. The money is passed to TUNG in the end and she pins it up on the notice board at TSUN’s desk. The next day, YUNG, who is originally very excited as the horse that he has bet on has come first, is shocked to learn that TSUN has not placed a bet for him because he did not see the money on the notice board. YUNG takes a photo of TSUN and pins it up. The news has reached SHUN, who demands that LAM and DIANA settle the matter. By doing so, SHUN manages to patch up LAM and DIANA. LAM suggests buying a lottery together. YUNG volunteers to go and buy it. YUNG panics when he knows that they have won the third prize because he has lost the ticket! He turns to YAT for help, but YAT takes it that he wants to swallow up the prize…
