Season 1:
Sean is a divorced dad who juggles a lot — his successful but demanding career, offbeat employees, pushy mom, Lorna , and weekends with his teenage daughter, Ellie. So when his 14-year-old bundle of joy moves in full time, the parenting books come out in full force. From keeping his boss, Max, happy, employees motivated and enduring his mother’s tactless "advice" to raising a smart, grounded and healthy kid, it’s going to be a growing experience, to say the least. But if anyone can handle it all, it’s Sean.
Sean contemplates whether or not he should ask Liz or Lorna to help find Ellie her first bra. Elsewhere, Max gives Sean an inappropriate gift.
While worried about Ellie's whereabouts, Sean has a blind date with a Periodontist, Chase. Meanwhile back at the office, Max thinks Sean has a crush on him.
When Max's father, Lee, visits, he takes his frustration out on his employees; Sean tries to set Lorna up with Lee.
Sean pretends he has an injury to avoid pairing up with Lorna in a ballroom dance competition.
In hope of comforting Liz, who is having relationship problems, Sean pretends he was rejected by a crush; Max makes Hunter his wingman.
Under Lorna's influence, Sean decides to be more of a disciplinarian to Ellie; Max gets in Hunter's head.
Max asks Sean to help find the mole in the office; Lorna and Sean worry when Ellie befriends an older girl.
Sean's new best friend, Tippy (Sarah Baker), turns out to be a handful; Max needs help fixing a mistake.
Sean tries to get more involved at Ellie's school; Liz and Hunter make an unsettling discovery when they become roommates; Max seeks a diversion.
Max and Sean team up when Max's dad returns to be with Lorna; Ellie turns to Liz and Hunter for advice.
When Max decides to go into business with the man who had an affair with Sean's ex-wife, Sean tries to stop him from causing further havoc; Lorna goes on a juice cleanse in an effort to fit into her old college uniform.
Liz and Lorna try to sabotage Sean's date with an ex; Max convinces Hunter to help house his birds.
When Jill, Sean's ex-wife and Ellie's mom (Portia de Rossi), comes into town, Sean worries that her exciting lifestyle will sway Ellie to move back to NY with her. Lorna and Lee finally get together.
Sean falls for Max's fencing instructor (Guy Pearce) who has a passion for justice and believes Sean does, too.
